The Annual Spring Ranking

An evaluation of the cubeability of cards based on maindeck percentages and win/loss ratios.

The Annual Spring Ranking will be a yearly record of the stats of cards in my cube list ranked according to their maindeck percentage equally weighted with their win/loss ratio each spring.

Maindeck percentage is one of the most common statistics kept by cube curators because cards that never get played might as well not exist in the cube. If a card does not serve a purpose, then it should be replaced with something that will fill a role and I wanted this aspect to be represented in the data.

Win/Loss ratio can give a general idea of the power of individual cards within the cube context. While extrapolating individual card power from the win/loss ratio of a 40 card deck has its flaws, I have found that this data still provides valuable insight for making decisions on power adjustments.

It is obvious that the perfect cube card can be played in a wide variety of decks and is consistently powerful, and that cards that are too narrow and are also not powerful are bad for cube. The goal of combining these two stats is to help examine cards that fall in the middle: Cards that are average across the board, cards that may be narrow but are very powerful, and cards that are lower in power but can be played in a wide variety of decks.
